The natural and resort area around Ura-Bandai featuring picturesque scenery (Kitashiobara-mura).

The area around Mt. Bandai is a popular tourist spot where you can enjoy water sports, camping, fishing, and skiing. The north side of Mt. Bandai is nicknamed as “Ura- Bandai” and each season has its own distinct beauty, making the area a marvelous resort area blessed with picturesque scenery everywhere. The distinctive geographical features of Caldera and the lakes and swaps in the Ura-Bandai area were formed due to the eruption of Mt Bandai in 1888.

We will introduce some places you should see and recommend interesting spots around this area.

Lake Hibara

Hibara, the biggest lake in the Ura-Bandai Highlands, was formed after the eruption of Mt. Bandai. You can take a cabin cruiser to visit 50 large and small islands on the lake.

Ski Resorts

There are nearly 15 ski resorts around the Mt. Bandai area. Each ski resort has its own distinctive character.

Mt. Bandai Eruption Memorial Museum
Many documents concerned with the eruption of Mt. Bandai over one hundred years ago are on display here.

Lodging and Camping Area

There are several lodges and camping areas on the lakeshore and in the Ura-Bandai Highlands area. These places are perfect for anyone who would like to stay and enjoy outdoor activities.

Michi no Eki Ura-Bandai

This place is on the shore of the Lake Hibara and on National Route 459 which connects Inawashiro-machi and Kitakata City. There are rest areas, restaurants, and many markets selling local items here. Also, this is a facility provides information for local transportation and tourism.

Ohshio Ura-Bandai Hot Spring
This hot spring is located in the Ura-Bandai Highland area, and is surrounded by breathtaking scenery.

Recommended Spots
Goshiki Swamp
The colorful lakes and swamps on the north root of Mt. Bandai are collectively called Goshiki Swamp. (Transportation:Take the bus from Kitakata Station and get off at the Goshiki-numa Iriguchi Bus Stop)
Lake Akimoto
This lake was formed by retaining water coming from the river in the Azuma Peaks. (Transportation:Take the bus from Kitakata Station and get off at the Michi-no-Eki Urabandai Bus Stop)
Morohashi Museum
Some of Salvador Dali’s works, and many other modern western paintings are collected here.Closed during the winter.(Transportation:Take the bus from Kitakata Station and get off at the Goshiki-numa Iriguchi Bus Stop)
LAVIE SPA Ura-Bandai
