Aizu Kiri (Paulownia Wood Products)
The Kiri or Paulownia tree is found in China and Japan. The best quality wood from Kiri trees in Japan is said to be found in the Aizu region because its climate and soil is ideal for the trees. Kiri trees grow quickly and survive for a very long time.
Kiri wood is perfectly suited to making fine quality furniture and other smaller objects because of its fine grain and natural luster. The annual rings can be clearly seen in the wood.
The most popular pieces of furniture made from Kiri are chest of drawers and smaller boxes of drawers for jewelry etc. Geta (Japanese wooden clogs) are also made from the wood as are a variety of household and ornamental objects.
