Higashiyama Bon Odori

The Higashiyama Bon Odori (summer folk dance) is held every year from the 13th to the 20th of August at the Higashiyama Spa. Before the start of the festival a tower is erected over the small but fast-flowing Yugawa River. In the evenings under the lights of countless small lanterns people, often dressed in light summer kimonos called Yukata, dance around the tower following a circular route crossing the river over two small bridges. Anyone is welcome to join in the dancing and sing the Aizu Bandai folk song which has been a long tradition at the Higashiyama Bon Odori.
