Oyakuen garden


Oyakuen garden is a herb garden which was originally set up in the late 17th century as a garden for a tea house belonging to the Aizu clan daimyo.

Various herbs were planted to provide herbal medicine and remedies for the poor and sick. Hence the garden was named Oyakuen. The three Chinese characters of the name meaning "honorable medicine garden".
