Tou-no-hetsuri
Designated a national natural landmark, at this famous sight on the eastern bank of the Okawa River, wind and water erosion over a million years have turned the layers of rock into a gigantic natural sculpture displaying fantastic shapes. There are many strange, wonderful rocks and some of them stand toward the sky like trees. The scene is particularly spectacular in early summer when the fuji flowers are in full bloom, and in autumn when the leaves are a brilliant hue.
Ohuch Old Post Town
One of few hamlets in the entire country that still retains an aura of Edo post-towns. O-uchi Juku once stood on the main road linking Aizu- Wakamatsu with the Nikko highway. Daimyo processions going back and forth to Edo as well as ordinary travelers stopped here to rest along the way. Thatched-roof houses line the narrow street. This extraordinary scenery is said to heal travelers' hearts.
