Places to stay
A traditional Japanese inn, ryokan, and a Western-style hotelThe Aizu- Wakamatsu area contains many places to stay, from business hotels to facilities that cater to tourists. To enjoy your Aizu adventure to the fullest, lodgings with onsen (hot springs) are highly recommended. There are regular hotels and traditional ryokan (traditional Japanese inns), complete with recreational facilities. As one might expect from an onsen resort area, the places all vie to provide elaborately designed baths with excellent views.
For those who enjoy a rustic atmosphere, lodgings can also be found in quieter, less-central places or on the Bandai Plateau. Such lodgings offer visitors a chance to immerse themselves in a traditional Japanese atmosphere.
Accommodations in the Aizu area are concentrated in Aizu- Wakamatsu City, the onsen resorts of Higashiyama and Ashinomaki, as well as Inawashiro and the Bandai Plateau. Many places have rotenburo (outdoor baths). It is a wonderful feeling to relax in a rotenburo and gaze up at the stars while breathing in the fresh air. In addition to hotels and inns, there are a lot of minshuku (family-run lodgings) and pensions, which offer a home-like atmosphere. The many pensions in the Bandai Plateau are popular among young people. The Inawashiro Sighitseeing Association (0242-62-2048)offers details about prices and other matters.
