Skiing Areas

There are nearly thirty ski areas in the Aizu district, each of which has its own character, and plenty of wonderful snow. With the exception of New Year's time, it is generally easy to get around. The following are ski areas in the vicinity of Inawashiro:

Inawashiro Ski Area
From here, it is possible to ski with the beautiful secenery of Lake Inawashiro from the middle of Mt.Bandai! For beginners and advanced skiers. A very steep slope, about 42 degrees. There are 16 different courses.

Bandai International Ski Area
Located on the east side of Mt. Bandai, these long runs appeal to both beginners and intermediate skiers. Ski and snowboard schools, rental equipment available, parking for 1,000 cars.

Inawashiro Resort Ski Area
There are nine courses, each offering a view of Lake Inawashiro. Various types of slopes, the steepest being 40 degrees. Fantastic for beginners and families. Night skiing, ski and snowboard schools, rental equipment available.

Listel Fantasia Ski Area
There are seven courses suitable for all levels. Night skiing, ski and snowboard schools, rental equipment available, parking for 1,000 cars.

Numajiri Ski Area
This is the oldest ski area in Tohoku region. Accessible from the hot springs area. There are 14 courses, for all levels, from beginner to advanced. If you want to ski at night you have to make reservations. Ski and snowboard schools, rental equipment available, parking for 2,500 cars.

Yokomuki Ski Area
You can ski from just in front of the Yokomuki Onsen Hotel. Ski and snowboard school, rental equipment available, parking for 100 cars.

Minowa Ski Area
It has 12 courses on the west side of Mt. Minowa. Moguls and night skiing, ski and snowboard school, rental equipment available, parking for 2,000 cars.

Alts Bandai Ski Area
It is one of the largest ski areas in Tohoku region. For all levels of skiers. Night skiing. Ski and snowboard school, rental equipment available, parking for 5,000 cars.

Kohan-no-mori Cross-Country Ski Course
Both adults and children can enjoy skiing here. Rental skis and parking available.

There are four famous ski areas in Urabandai district.

Urabandai Ski Area
It is located near the crater of Mt. Bandai. For families. There is a cross-country ski course around the crater. Ski and snowboard school, rental equipment available, parking for 500 cars.

Urabandai Nekoma Ski Area
Eleven courses. Night skiing. Ski and snowboard school, rental equipment available, parking for 3,000 cars.

Gurandeko Ski Area
Surrounded by beech wood, there are 7 courses ranging between 10 to 33 degrees. Ski and snowboard school, rental equipment available, parking for 5,000 cars.

Urabandai Cross-Country Ski Area
Located in Bandai Kogen Kokumin Kyukason area, at about 10km long, this is the longest course in Japan. Ski school and rental skis available. Normal type skis are prohibited on this course.
